Mariners Daily 3/11

Another day and another come from behind win as the Mariners defeated the Reds 7-6. Seattle trailed 3-0 early in the game before taking the lead 6-3 in the 4th, however Seattle's bullpen couldn't hold down the fort and allowed the Reds to tie things up in the 7th. Fortunately the M's were able to score in the 8th inning and James Pazos pitched a perfect 9th inning to pick up the save. Chase De Jong started the game but didn't turn many heads as he went 3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, he currently had a 5.14 ERA in 2 appearances thus spring which isn't ideal. Andrew Moore followed him and also struggled before Manager Scott Servais made the change to Shae Simmons who allowed a solo homerun in 0.1 innings of work.

Offensively it was a pretty good day for the Mariners who scored 7 runs on 13 hits, were 6-16 RISP and had 6 steals which is awesome to see. Mitch Haniger lead the way going 3-4 with 2 RBI, but many M's including Mike Zunino, Jarrod Dyson, Taylor Motter, Danny Valencia and Shawn O'Malley also did pretty well today. Baserunning is one of the things that GM Jerry Dipoto has talked about improving and today it showed, Dyson has 2 stolen bases, Tyler Smith had 1, Taylor Motter had 1, Shawn O'Malley had 1 and Mitch Haniger had 1 as well.

Defensively the Mariners continued their errors streak with Tyler Smith's fielding error. It isn't uncommon to see errors in Spring Training, especially since a lot of these players are young minor leaguers who are there to improve upon their game but are bound to make mistakes.
