Islanders Silence Flyers

For the first time in a while, the New York Islanders were playing in a meaningful regular season game. They were three points back of the second wild card spot in the east to begin the night, against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Islanders defeated the Flyers 3 to 1.

They are one point back of the Philadelphia Flyers and two points back of the Boston Bruins for the second wild card spot. Wayne Simmonds scored the lone goal for the Flyers in the first period on the power play. The Flyers dominated the period until John Tavares ripped a shot, and Anders Lee deflected the shot for a power-play goal in the first period, to tie the game at 1.

Jason Chimera scored in the second period for the Islanders. Casey Cizikas scored for the Islanders in the third period. Thomas Greiss bounced back tonight with 34 saves for the Islanders. Steve Mason made 27 saves for the Flyers. These two teams will play each other one more time this season.
