Chicago Bears Mock Draft
The last article I wrote I put what I wanted the Bears to do in free agency and in the draft. My mock draft was more of a dream at the time because some of the players I had put down will more than likely now be gone way before the picks I have them being taken at. So here is a full updated 7 round mock draft for the Bears after what they have done in free agency.
Round 1: Jamal Adams (S, LSU) - I absolutely love Jamal Adams I think he is the best safety in this draft by far. The Bears addressed some of the need at DB in free agency by bringing in Quentin Demps, Prince Amukamara, and Marcus Cooper. They also resigned Johnthan Banks, Bryce Callahan, and Chris Prosinski. That being said the Bears cannot pass up on Jamal Adams. The last few years they have passed up on some very solid safeties such as Landon Collins and HaHa Clinton-Dix. They cannot afford to pass up on Adams. Adams is gonna step in day one and be a leader for the Bears instantly and it never hurts to have more leaders. Jamal is a high IQ player who is also very instinctive. Adams plays a pretty physical game he definitely is not afraid to put his head down and make a big hit. He will put an end to the Bears suffering at the safety position and be a key player to build a team around.
Round 2: Fabian Moreau (CB, UCLA) - I have the Bears addressing the secondary needs once again with this pick. Fabian started off as a RB and transitioned into CB. My biggest knack on him right now other than just experience at the CB position is injuries. This is some what of a red flag for me because the Bears cannot afford to bring in a player that gets injured often especially with everything that has happened with Kevin White Bears fans will freak out. Last season in general it seemed like everyone was getting injured for the Bears. I do believe Fabian will be okay though after tearing his pectoral at his pro day. He has returned once from injury and played very well. I think he will be okay when it comes to injuries. He had a solid combine where ran a 4.35 40 which was the second fastest times for DB's and also was a top performer in the vertical jump, broad jump, and 60 yd shuttle. He is 6'0" 206lbs which is a very good size plus his speed is a great combination. He is a superb athlete and I think being developed under Vic Fangio the Bears will have a very good CB to help fix that mess of a CB group.
Round 3: Nathan Peterman (QB, Pittsburgh) - The Bears finally find the QB of their future in the third round. Peterman is the most NFL ready QB in the draft this year which is not saying much, but him playing in a pro-style offense gives him a head start over the other QBs in the draft. He will not have as big of a learning curve when it comes to playing in an NFL offense as most of the other QBs this year will have. That being said I think sitting behind Mike Glennon for a little bit will do him best. His delivery is inconsistent which causes him to be inaccurate at times. He is also very poised in the pocket and isnt afraid to take a hit. Peterman has great deep ball accuracy, goes through all of his progressions, and throws with great timing and anticipation. He reminds most people and myself of Kirk Cousins they are pretty similar in my opinion. I believe this is the QB the Bears need to take a look at, but only in the third round or later.
Round 4: Carlos Henderson (WR, Louisiana Tech) Carlos had a great year having 82 receptions for 1535 yards and 19 TDs. The Bears need another WR even after bringing in Kendall Wright and Markus Wheaton during free agency. He is a hands catcher who is also a good runner after the catch. He will get snaps day one and help add depth to the Bears WR core. The Bears are obviously hoping that Kevin White can play at a high level, but for a fourth round pick Carlos Henderson skill is well worth the value.
Round 4: Kendell Beckwith (LB, LSU) For the Bears second pick of the fourth round I have them going with Beckwith. You can never have enough depth and especially with all the injuries the Bears had last year they need depth. Beckwith has quick hands and good body control. He has above average football IQ. This could be a great pick for the Bears especially with his experience playing 3-4 and 4-3.
Round 5: Daeshon Hall (DE, Texas A&M) This is a great steal if the Bears could get Hall at this position in the draft. If he adds and sustains muscle like coaches believe he can he will be a force for the Bears. He is a effort player and hustles to get every tackle. He easily can be molded by Vic Fangio into the type of DE he is looking for. The Bears have another young player they love in Leonard Floyd who also needs to add some mass so I believe they will have no issue with having to wait maybe a year for Hall to add that extra mass on. Once again this move adds depth to a defense that really needs it. I think he can be a monster if developed correctly and Vic Fangio is the guy you want developing defensive players he has a proven track record that he can develop them and have them playing at a high level. I believe he will be the steal of the draft if taken by the Bears here. I could see him playing a decent amount of snaps by the end of the year if developed right.
Round 7: Travis Rudolph (WR, FSU) Rudolph made headlines when he sat and ate lunch with a boy who had autism that was all by himself during a middle school visit. He didn't do that to get attention he did that because he is a genuine great kid. The Bears love high character guys that is why they have been getting rid of guys in the last few seasons under Pace and Fox that they believe aren't good character guys and locker room issue players. Travis is a good route runner. He runs his route with consistency and good tempo. He also has no issue being a run blocker. He needs to get a little stronger to help him fight off the CB for some catches. He has good ball skills and makes adjustments to the ball if its overthrown or under thrown. Not the fastest guy by any means, but with his hands he should have no issue being efficient on deep balls. To back that up he had 14.3 percent of his catches this season go for 25-plus yards. For a seventh round pick this is a great pick because Bears really are lacking at WR. You aren't just bringing in a decent WR you are also bringing in a great guy that most people will love which has been a huge thing under Pace and Fox. There is a chance he doesn't get drafted most places I have seen don't have him getting drafted so why not spend a seventh round pick to make sure you get him to help that WR core.
The Bears would hit most of their needs if they went this route in the draft. They get their star defensive player and some young players that can be solid in the future for them on the defensive side of the ball plus they get their future starter QB and add some good play makers on the offensive side of the ball with the WRs I have them taking.
