An ode to the Cubs
?The Cubs overcame a curse which has lasted well over a century in one of the greatest games of all time. It literally had it all. What a time for baseball to have that game. Although ratings have been good in the playoffs, a lot of that has been because of the narratives. Gameplay has been seen as rather boring for the neutral and in the long run damaging for baseball. Then Game Seven was played! How could you not fall in love with the drama of baseball. It should provide a bump in the arm as new fans come back next season. It was so nice feeling the emotion of the players and the stands. I had goosebumps at so many points during the game. That is what sport is about, moments that give you goosebumps and no one could deny that was one.
No one can argue the Cubs did not deserve it. Joe Maddon and Theo Epstein are going to go down as hall of famers. The Cubs team was dominant all season winning 103 games, their best for over 100 years. They also tailed off at the end, having had the best start in 30 years when winning 24 of the first 30 games. They started the All-Star Game with the entire Cubs infield starting. Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester are potential NL Cy Young winners. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant are potential NL MVP winners. Even Jason Heyward had his moment after a poor season following his big money contract. His speech was a momentous moment and will go down in Cubs history. Even the playoffs they overcame some of the best pitchers in the game. Johnny Cueto, Madison Bumgarner, Rich Hill, Kenley Jansen, Corey Kluber and Andrew Miller were all defeated. The Cubs and the city of Chicago deserve this. The best team in baseball this year has been crowned and it was the Cubs
