A Quick Mavericks Free Agency Run Down
Free agency opens tonight. Dallas is going hard and reports are flying out a million miles a minute. So here is a quick post that can get you caught up with just one quick click.
Hassan Whiteside
Dallas' number one target since the start of the summer. Whiteside will meet with Dallas first in a "TBD" location, near midnight eastern time tonight. Reports came out tonight that Dallas may be becoming the front runner to steal the 27 year old big man away from Miami. NEW: Wojnarowski says on "The Vertical" that he expects a deal to be done with Hassan Whiteside to be done just hours after midnight. Most likely with Dallas. NEW: Marc Stein reporting that Dallas is scheduled to meet with Hassan Whiteside in New York soon after free agency starts. NEW: Ken Berger reports that people in Whiteside's inner circle do not believe Miami is on the outside looking in. NEW: Shams Charania reports that Hassan Whiteside left his meeting with Miami without making an agreement. Dallas is next in New York. NEW: Dallas wrapped their meeting up with Whiteside at around 1:55 AM, Dallas time. NEW: Miami has regained footing with Dallas after their meeting tonight, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. NEW: At 2:50 AM, Hassan Whiteside posted a story on his Snapchat saying "Free Agency decision coming soon on snap". NEW: At 3:34 AM, Hassan Whiteside posted another story saying he will announce his decision tomorrow. NEW: At around 7:30 AM, Whiteside announced via Snapchat that he would stay in Miami.
Mike Conley
Dallas' second number one target (that's kind of oxymoronic, but whatever). The Mavs are expected to be the only other team outside of Memphis to meet with the best point guard in this summer's free agency pool. Houston may get a meeting, but nothing has been set. Mike Fisher reported just minutes ago that Conley will meet with the Mavericks IN DALLAS. However, many believe that if Memphis offers a fully guaranteed fifth year, which no other team can offer, Conley will likely accept it. NEW: Mavs will return to Dallas after their meeting with Whiteside in New York to meet with Conley. NEW: Mike Conley is apparently a strong advocate for Chandler Parsons in Memphis, if Conley re-signs, according to Marc Stein. NEW: Tim MacMahon reports that Chandler Parsons and Mike Conley have had multiple conversations about teaming up in Memphis. Conley will meet with Dallas today. NEW: Mike Conley has received a full 5 year max offer from Memphis and is expected to accept it tonight or early tomorrow morning. NEW: Stein reports that Mike Conley and Grizzlies have agreed to a deal.
Nicolas Batum
Let's call Batum Plan A-2. If Conley says no and Whiteside says yes (or, the more unlikely situation, vice versa), Batum will be the second max level player Dallas will pursue harder. Batum is only 27 and will fill in Chandler Parsons' hole that he will leave when he walks. Batum and the Mavs will meet in Dallas as well. We just don't know when yet. Batum, much like Conley, could very well accept his former team's (Hornets) contract if they offer a guaranteed fifth year. Mavs are the biggest threat to steal him away from Charlotte if one of Dallas' bigger targets says no. NEW: Mavs will return to Dallas after their meeting with Whiteside in New York to meet with Batum. NEW: Wesley Matthews will be in town Friday and could go to meeting with former teammate, Nicolas Batum. NEW: According to The Vertical, Charlotte would rather NOT max out Nicolas Batum. NEW: Batum has reached a 5 year, $120 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets, according to Shams Charania.
Dwywane Wade
This isn't happening, but Dallas will entertain Wade to keep the Heat more worried about signing him instead of Hassan Whiteside. The Mavericks are just playing the game with Dwyane Wade, nothing more. NEW: The Bulls, Nuggets, Bucks, and, yes, the Mavs, are reportedly offering Dwyane Wade contracts upward of $20 million of both two and three years, The Vertical reports. NEW: The Nuggets are pushing hard to steal Dwyane Wade away from Miami, but Marc Stein believes Miami will be able to keep him. NEW: Wade will meet with Milwaukee tomorrow, while Denver continues to push. Dallas sounds very unlikely at this point. NEW: Wade has received a 2 year, $40 million deal from the Miami Heat. NEW: Wade was recently on a private jet with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and Finals MVP LeBron James. They may be working on a deal to reunite the two. NEW: The circus around Dwyane Wade is crazy right now. He could land anywhere from Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, Miami, and even Denver. BREAKING: Dwyane Wade has agreed to join the Chicago Bulls. That officially puts an end to the Dallas and Wade marriage.
Jamal Crawford
Crawford is reportedly more of a Plan B type guy. Don't expect Crawford to be a signing to go along with a Conley-Whiteside, Whiteside-Batum, Conley-Batum, pairing. The Mavericks will get a meeting, but he is likely to stay with the Clippers. He will meet with Orlando first. He would be the perfect 6th man for Dallas, but I doubt it happens. NEW: Jamal Crawford has agreed on 3 year, $42 million deal to return to LA.
Matthew Dellavedova
Dallas is one of five teams that have reached out to Matthew Dellevodva's camp. The Kings, Hawks, Bucks, and Cavs are also interested. Cleveland has made it known that they would like to retain their backup point guard. The interest with these other teams is mutual according to cleveland.com. NEW: Dellevadova has accepted an offer from the Milwaukee Bucks. Cleveland has three days to match after he signs on July 7th.
Ian Mahinmi
Ex Dallas Maverick Ian Mahinmi may be in play for the Mavs, reports David Aldridge. Portland, Charlotte, and Orlando are also pushing for Mahinmi. Mike Fisher, however, reports that no such negotiations are going on within the Mavericks front office. NEW: Mahinmi has agreed on a 4 year, $64 million deal with the Washington Wizards.
Harrison Barnes
Dallas will reportedly sign Harrison Barnes to a 4 year, $94 million offer sheet on July 7th. The Warriors will have 3 days to match the offer if they wish to retain the 24 year old small forward. If Kevin Durant signs with Golden State, the Warriors cannot match the Mavericks offer. If Durant signs elsewhere, Golden State will likely match. Barnes has proved steady development in his four seasons with the Warriors and would fill a need for Dallas at the small forward role. BREAKING: Now that KD has signed with the Golden State Warriors, Dallas will go ahead with their offer sheet and Harrison Barnes will be a Dallas Maverick. NEW: Dallas and Harrison Barnes have agreed to a 4 year, $94 million deal now that he is an unrestricted free agent
Seth Curry
According to Mike Fisher, Dallas is looking into the idea of signing newly unrestricted free agent point guard, Seth Curry. Dallas currently has Devin Harris and JJ Barea on their roster as point guards. Curry is only 25 and shot 45% from three last season with the Sacramento Kings. BREAKING: Dallas and Seth Curry have agreed on a 2 year, $6 million deal. Curry averaged 16.4 points per game and 5.3 assists per game in April, when his role was increased with the Kings.
Dwight Powell
Dwight Powell, the Mavericks' restricted free agent, wants to re-sign with Dallas. Powell has received multiple offers, reportedly, but the Mavericks seem to be in a good place to bring back the young power forward. A team would likely have to severely overpay Powell to make sure Dallas doesn't match. BREAKING: Dallas has agreed on a 4 year, $37 million deal. Could be worth more according to Shams Charania.
Jarnell Stokes
Dallas recently worked out Jarnell Stokes in a free agent mini camp. Stokes won the D-League MVP last season, and the Mavericks are reportedly one team that is interested in signing the young big man. Stokes averaged 20.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He's only 22 and last played for Miami in the NBA. NEW: Stokes has agreed to play for the San Antonio summer league team. He could end up being a Spur in the regular season.
Donald Sloan
The Mavericks are one of five teams interested in the former Brooklyn Nets shooting guard, Donald Sloan. Sloan is only 28 and averaged 7 points and 4.4 assists per game last season and could provide some much needed depth at the two slot behind Wesley Matthews.
Deron Williams
BREAKING: Marc Stein reports that the Mavericks and Deron Williams have agreed on a deal to bring the point guard back next season. Details on deal are coming. NEW: The deal is reportedly worth $10 million for one year.
Raymond Felton
The New Orleans Pelicans, who are in need of a point guard, have expressed interest in former Maverick Raymond Felton. There is still mutual interest to bring Felton back to bolster Dallas' point guard depth next season.
Dirk Nowitzki
BREAKING: Dallas and Dirk Nowitzki have agreed on a 2 year, $40 million deal. The second year of this contract is likely a player option. Dirk could have made a little over $62 million in two seasons, but still wanted Dallas to be have some flexibility. Welcome back to the GOAT. Dallas loves you.
Rodrigue Beaubois
According to Tim MacMahon, Dallas is considering a reunion with former Maverick Roddy B. He is only 28 years old and is rehabbing himself for an NBA comeback. Dallas could use the depth at the 2 spot. Dallas should have three roster spots open, which will all go to players on minimum contracts.
