College Basketball Rankings: Kentucky becomes No. 1
The Kentucky Wildcats needed two weeks to become the No. 1 team in college basketball. On Monday, the Wildcats earned the top spot in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time this season. Thanks to victories over Michigan State and Duquesne, the Wildcats moved to (4-0). Each victory came by double digits. They earned 42 first place votes on Monday.
However, it was the loss by No. 6 Duke that gave the Wildcats the top spot. The Blue Devils were the preseason No. 1 team and they earned the spot until their loss to the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks last week. The Blue Devils bounced back with a 10-point victory over Rhode Island on Sunday.
Surprisingly, the No. 2 Villanova Wildcats haven't missed a beat. The Wildcats jumped up one spot and they seem to be hitting on all cylinders early in the season. They also received the second most first place votes (21). The No. 3 Indiana Hoosiers also moved up three spots. The Hoosiers received three two first place votes this week. The No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels are the top ranked ACC team.
Overall, there are five ACC teams ranked in the Top 25. The No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers and No. 10 Louisville Cardinals each moved up. However, the No. 18 Syracuse Orange didn't move up at all. Originally, the Orange seemed to have moved to No. 17, but they AP Top 25 sent out an incomplete ballot according to Syracuse.com. Additionally, the Florida State Seminoles dropped out of the Top 25.
