College Basketball Rankings: UCLA makes move into Top 5

The AP Top 25 Poll released their updated college basketball rankings on Monday. The Week Five poll presented a new No. 1 team in the country. For the first time all season, the No. 1 Villanova Wildcats have staked claim to the top spot in the college basketball rankings. Currently, the Wildcats are (8-0) and running through their early-season schedule. However, they needed an upset victory to earn the top spot. 

On Saturday, the UCLA Bruins entered Rupp Arena with an (8-0) record. They left with a (9-0) record, after dominating the the former No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats on the road. As a result, the Bruins moved up nine spots to No. 2. The Bruins also received two first-place votes. 

The No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks moved up one spot. Despite having a loss, the Jayhawks are the highest rated Big 12 team. However, the No. 4 Baylor Bears enter the week with a better record and more first-place votes. Due to a 15 point win over Xavier, the Bears seem to have the best resume in college basketball.  

The ACC only had two teams in the Top 10. The No. 5 Duke Blue Devils remained the same, while No. 7 North Carolina Tar Heels dropped four spots. The No. 11 Louisville Cardinals starts the second 10 after moving up three spots. Their only loss came to Baylor. No. 14 Virginia dropped eight spots after their loss to No. 15 West Virginia. Meanwhile, No. 23 Notre Dame is the final ACC team in the AP Top 25 Poll. 

AP Top 25 Poll
