The 2018 Dirty Dozen Debut.

Welcome to the first week of the 2018 Dirty Dozen tournament, where ugly defeats and olfactory smells abound and are celebrated. Each week, 12 of the Power Five's 64 teams get recognized for their struggles; the 12 Dumpster Divers if you will. There will also be awards given to any other debacles that transpire anywhere in college football. The Dirty Dozen Committee, dressed up in their spanking, brand new shiny suits, are in the process of finding a name for this award. Maybe the Dumpster Fire Medallion.

Keep in mind, this is only for fun, and hopefully entertaining. Your favorite school only has to win to avoid a spot on this list. Chances are pretty fair that my favorite school will find itself mentioned eventually. I will keep that under wraps for now.

The ACC is well represented in this week's divers. Four ACC squads make the cut for all of the conference junkies out there. Even though they were clipped by Alabama last week, Louisville earns a spot. The 'U' was whack along with their buddies, Florida State. North Carolina is jockeying players in and out of suspensions.

The Big 12 and the PAC 12 are just in front of the ACC with three divers each. Arizona, UCLA and Oregon State all deserved spots. Reports are still coming in that Ohio State was still scoring on the Beavers on their plane ride home. Texas, Texas Tech and stalwart, Kansas all need showers from the Big 12.

That odor your smelling is this week's Dumpster Divers...

This week's Dirty Dozen Chumpion is...

Kansas (0-1)

Lost to: Nicholls State; 23-26 OT

Next: @ Central Michigan

You can't lose to Nicholls State at home. Kansas managed that and I wonder if they don't have a lock on the #1 position all throughout this year.

It's a bit harsh to have Michigan as a diver. The Silver Suit Committee chose them over Nebraska and Iowa State, whom both lost to thunderstorms.

*This Week's Close Calls...

These teams came all so close to dumpster diving.

Kansas State

defeated South Dakota by 3.

Penn State

defeated Appalachian State in OT

Michigan State

defeated Utah State by 7.

Wake Forest

defeated Tulane by 6.

*Blowout of the week...

Fresno State over Idaho in a 79-13 nailbiter.

* The Case for Relegation in FBS Football...

In addition to Kansas; Temple, East Carolina, UTEP and San Jose State failed to negotiate their FCS opponents.

* Garbage Bags go to...

Willie Taggart

For a man that has 'don't make excuses' as one of his slogans, he sure made one up after his Florida State squad got hammered at home to Virginia Tech. He claims they were slowing the Seminoles offensive pace by faking injuries.

Although that may be true, you have to overcome that.

East Carolina

It took two days to lose to North Carolina A&T at home. It's the second year in a row that the Pirates lost to a FCS team and the third year in a row A&T knocked off a FBS opponent.

FAU

They were the trendy pick to go into Norman, Oklahoma to get a win. That was 7 touchdowns off.

VMI Special Teams

Toledo's Cory Thompson; (pictured above), went untouched through the line of VMI and blocked a punt that went directly into his bread basket for one of the quickest touchdowns possible. Needed points in Toledo's 66-3 squeaker.
