Jaime Garcia trade hits snag
Yesterday afternoon, it was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Braves and Twins were discussing a trade for Jaime Garcia. Talks progressed quickly, and Aaron Blair was pulled from his start with the Gwinnett Braves (the Braves' AAA affiliate) in preparation for replacing Garcia in his start against the Dodgers on Friday. Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reported that the Braves would recieve a minor leaguer and that the teams were waiting on medicals.
However, Garcia was seen on the field in full uniform prior to Thursday night's Braves-Dodgers game. As the night progressed, it was reported that the approximately $5 million left on Garcia's contract was holding up the trade. The level of money saved by the Braves would influence the quality of the prospect that the Braves would recieve in return. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves will continue to shop Garcia if the Twins deal falls through.
As of right now, Garcia is still scheduled to start for the Braves tonight as they take on the Dodgers tonight in Los Angeles.
Stay tuned for updates.
