Boxing Tactics: The Weakness Of Keith "One Time" Thurman
Even though Keith "one time" Thurman has posted an undefeated record thus far during his six and a half year career as a professional boxer, there is one weakness that will eventually threaten his undefeated record and his status as an elite welterweight. When Thurman is in the ring, he tends to put his left hand below his face and away from his body. As a result of this, Thurman leaves the left side of his face wide open for his opponents to target during the fight. Therefore, his opponents should create a game plan where they focus on throwing their right hand with regularity throughout the fight.
Since the right hand gives his opponents a direct lane to the left side of his face which as I mentioned above is uncovered and there is a high possibility that he will not be able to block the right hand. This is because Thurman has his left hand away from his body and by the time he gets his left hand in position to cover his face the punch has already landed. An example of this is his fight against Diego Chaves, Chaves was able to consistently land the right hook and straight right before Thurman could get his hand in position to block the punch. If Thurman wants to keep his name within the elite of the welterweight division he must put his left hand higher and closer to his body so he can block the right hand with more frequency.
