The Tennessee Titans Should Make The Playoffs In 2016

Even though many NFL fans and media expect the Tennessee Titans to show some improvement during this season, there is a realistic possibility that they make the playoffs this season. This is because the Titans will implement an offensive system where Marcus Mariota is going to be primarily in charge of handling the ball off or running the ball on his own in an effort to get the opposing defense to stack the box. Once the Titans make the opposing defense honor the running game by stacking the box it will allow them to run some play action passes. Where they would fake the handoff to the running backs making the opposing defense believe that they are going to run the ball. As a result, the opposing defense will keep the box stacked thus giving the Titans receivers more man to man coverage and Marcus Mariota more open space on the field to lead his receivers to the ball which would have increased the likelihood of the pass being completed. This will allow the team to keep drives alive while forcing the opposing team to put more players in coverage to decrease the likelihood of the offense scoring a substantial amount of points in a short period of time thus giving the running backs room to run the ball again. The combination of these factors enabled the offense to stay on the field for a prolonged period of time.

As a result of this, the Titans offensive unit will have a direct impact on the performance of the opposing offense because they won't be able to develop a rhythm throughout the course of the game. As a result of this, it increases the likelihood that the opposing offense will act out of character when they get on the field. For instance, if the Titans are able to run their offensive system effectively, the amount of possessions for the other team will most likely be limited to one or two per quarter. Thus opposing offense will put pressure on themselves to make the most out of every possession which leads to the quarterback holding on to the ball for a longer period of time to allow routes to develop in an effort to gain a substantial amount of yards per play. Which leaves the quarterback more susceptible to being hit, taking a sack or throwing an incompletion, as a result it decreases the likelihood that they will be able to score enough points. Therefore if the Titans are able to run this offensive system for the whole season they will somewhat resemble the 2014 version of the Dallas Cowboys and win 9-11 games.
