Mariners Daily 2/27

Yovani Gallardo got the start for the Mariners against the Royals today and it was definitely not the outing he was hoping to have as the Royals defeated the M's 14-3 in 7 innings after the game was called due to rain. Gallardo struggled in his Mariners debut, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits, while walking 2 and even hit a batter. Gallardo was pulled after just one inning because his pitch count was around 40 pitches and he was followed up by Nick Vincent and Marc Rzepczynski who also struggled in their first games back. Vincent fared better compared to Gallardo, allowing just a solo homer and 2 strikeouts, but it was Rzepczynski who had the worst day of the three. Rzepczynksi lasted just one innings allowing 6 runs, 5 earned on 5 hits, 2 strikeouts and allowed 2 homeruns. Rzepczynski is espected to be the Mariners lefty specialist in the bullpen so it's a good thing this is just Spring training and he has plenty of time to work out the kinks and help the M's in their hunt for the postseason.

Offensively the M's Scored just 3 runs on 9 hits and were 0-6 RISP (Runners in Scoring Position). Segura had a fantastic game, going 3-3 with 3 RBI's and a 2 run homerun. Dyson, Valencia and Haniger also picked up hits which was good to see.
