Eddie Lacy signs with Seahawks
Running back Eddie Lacy, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, has signed with the Seattle Seahawks for 1 year $5.5 million. This is actually a nice deal for him, putting him in the top ten in salary for the position, despite this past season in which he was injured and missed 11 games.
Through his NFL career, Lacy has always been overweight, but in the beginning, he would be able to use his weight and strength to his advantage, plowing through defenders to gain extra yardage. He's also one of the better pass-catching backs in the league, and also is a strong pass blocker. But last season, he had ankle issues that would hold him out of all but 5 games, heavily diminishing the Packers' running attack.
The Seahawks' run game hasn't looked the same since Marshawn Lynch hung up his cleats. Last season was supposed to be the Thomas Rawls show, but he came into the season hurt, unable to play in the beginning. Throughout the season, the Seahawks used Christine Michael, Thomas Rawls when he returned, or C.J. Prosise, who did show some signs of greatness, but apparently not enough to hand him the keys to the job this season. Rawls or Prosise should stick around as the backup, as Michael is no longer with the team, so this is actually a good situation for the Seahawks, especially if they can get Eddie Lacy back into playing shape (he supposedly showed up to one of his 3 free agent visits weighing 267 pounds) and only use him as a two down back, instead of an all down back, to preserve his body. If Lacy can get back into shape and stay that way, the Seahawks could go back to having an aggressive running attack and balance the offense to take pressure off of Russell Wilson, making the Seahawks just as dangerous as they've ever been.
