3 reason to NOT sign Dez Bryant.
The Dallas Cowboys released wide receiver Dez Bryant in a shocking move on Friday. Talk had been that Dez was going to be asked about a pay cut instead he just got cut. Bryant was going to make 12.5 million if on the roster for Dallas this season. The free agnet market for wideouts has been crazy this year and Dez is set to make another splash in that market. I think Dez has a good chance to make that same amount else where on a different team. However despite the reports and the fans and even some players trying to recruit Dez to DC I don't think that the Washington Redskins are a good fit at all. Heres three reasons why:
1. Dez turns 30 in November. Dez has certainly lost a step and should only be viewed as someone who can help in the redzone. That being said the redskins have 3rd year player in Josh Doctson who should fill that role nicely. Doctson has been a disappointment so far yes, but he missed basically all of his rookie season due to an injury. Josh played well in year two but didn't show enough signs of being a ture number one. One would think that this could be a break out year for Doctosn so why chase after an ageing receiver like Dez Bryant? Washington should stay the corse with Doctson. Going after Dez would be giving up on Josh.
2. How would Dez really fit with this team? He's had beef with Josh Norman in the past all through that seems to be behind both of them. But how does he fit with the scheme of the offense and the current pieces in place? Unless they view him as a true number one receiver, which he is not, then he doesn't really fit. Theoretically he would line up opposite Paul Richardson jr with Jamison Crowder in thr slot. Crowder and Richardson will likely be interchangeable from slot to split out. Where does this leave Doctson? back to the 4th best wideout like his injury plagued rookie season? Or would this push Crowder down the depth chart in a contract year? Adding Dez could cause more problems then it would fix. Crowder has played well for the Skins and should be geting paid going into next off-season. Bringing in Dez Bryant could make bring back Crowder to difficult.
3. Is he worth the Value? Dez is going to want make upward of 10million a year. Washington just signed Paul Richardson jr, who is 26 years old, to a 5 year 40 million dollar contract. That's an average of 8 million a year and only 20 million is guaranteed. Dez will bring a little more to the tabel than Paul Richardson jr but will a much bigger piece of the pie. Jarvis Landry and Sammy Watkins got around an average of 15 and 16 million a year. I don't expect Dez to get that much but he's certainly going to be out of the Skins price range unless they overspend.
