Right move to bring back Fitzpatrick
After posting franchise records for the Jets, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets went through a major drama regarding his contract. Luckily for the Jets, it only cost them $12 million for one season. Because at the moment, if the Jets plan to succeed, they needed a better situation at quarterback.
Prior to Fitz, it was the incumbent Geno Smith, the even more incumbent Bryce Petty, and rookie Christian Hackenberg. In my opinion, Hackenberg is the long term answer, but he is not close to ready.
The Jets also made it clear that by drafting Hackenberg, they weren't going to commit anymore time to the development of Smith and Petty, at least as starters. It should be that every second round pick made is one that is intended as a starter. Hackenberg was a second rounder, so he should be a starter in the near future.
Which brings me back to Fitzpatrick. A one year deal allows Hackenberg time, and keeps the Jets in contention without having to commit big time or money to either. It was the right move, and should keep the Jets in playoff contention, even with the schedule they have http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/schedule/NYJ/new-york-jets
