Indians Out Surge Red Sox
Terry Francona, the manager of the Cleveland Indians, returned to the postseason for the first time since being the manager of the Boston Red Sox years ago. Cleveland would out duel Boston 5 to 4 in Game 1.
Boston took a 1 to 0 lead in the 1st inning on a Hanley Ramirez double, but Brock Holt would be thrown out at home on an overturned call. It could have been 2 to 0 Boston early. Cleveland tied the game at 1 in the 2nd inning on a Lonnie Chisenhall RBI Single.
In the 3rd inning, Andrew Benintendi hit a solo home-run to give the Red Sox the lead back. When the Indians were batting in the same inning, they hit 3 solo home-runs by Roberto Perez, Jason Kipnis, and Francisco Lindor.
Sandy Leon hit a solo homer for the Red Sox in the 5th inning. In the same inning, Kipnis hit an RBI Single for the Indians.
In the 8th inning, Brock Holt hit another home-run for the Red Sox to cut the lead to 5 to 4. Closer Cody Allen struck out Dustin Pedroia to end the game. This is his first save of the postseason. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 2 hits. He struck out 4.
Andrew Miller was the winning pitcher for the Indians. He pitched 2 innings and gave up 1 hit. He walked 1 batter and struck out 4.
Rick Porcello would be the losing pitcher for the Red Sox. He pitched 4.1 innings and gave up 6 hits and 5 runs. He struck out 6 batters. Porcello has been solid throughout the regular season, and he didn't come through in the game. Maybe he will get another chance this postseason to redeem himself.
Game 2 will be play on Friday Afternoon in Cleveland.
