Washington Wins Presidents' Trophy

For the second consecutive season, the Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents' Trophy prize. They defeated the New York Rangers 2 to 0. Goals were scored by Justin Williams in the second-period on the power play and by Evgeny Kuznetsov in the third-period.
Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots for the Capitals. He recorded his ninth shutout of the season. As for Henrik Lundqvist, he stopped 23 shots for the Rangers.
Two matchups have been officially declared in the east for the first round: Columbus Blue Jackets vs Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers vs Montreal Canadiens.
Washington clinched the Presidents' Trophy much later this year than last year. The obvious goal for them is championship or bust. It is to be determined to see who Washington will play in the first round.
