What were the Bears doing?

The San Francisco 49ers were not going to take Mitchell Trubisky with the 2nd pick in Thursday's NFL draft... their man was Soloman Thomas. Not only did the 49ers get their man, but got a lot more for him when the Bears made possibly the most head-scratching move in modern NFL Draft history.
Here are the result of the trade...
|| Bears received: SF Round 1 (Pick 2) (Picked QB Mitchell Trubisky, North Carolina)
|| 49ers received: CHI Round 1 (Pick 3) (Picked DE Soloman Thomas, Stanford); CHI Round 3 (Pick 67); CHI Round 4 (Pick 111); CHI 2018 Round 3 Pick.
Not only was the result of the trade horrendous on the Bears side, it put general manager Ryan Pace on an even hotter seat than the already was. It also added to the frustration that Bears' fans have endured for the past three season. If Trubisky doesn't equal the Bears' expectations, Pace will be gone...
Not many mock drafts and predictions had the 49ers taking any quarterback with their pick. New GM John Lynch, made his first splash in the NFL with this trade. The only logical explanation for this trade (in Chicago's perspective) was that the Bears were wanting a franchise quarterback, and believed that a team was going to trade with the 49ers for their future franchise quarterback.
Ryan Pace has stuck to his plan in building through the draft. Now, the Bears will depend on Mike Glennon for the 2017 campaign, allowing Trubisky to improve. The success of Trubisky will only take time, and the results are also to be seen through time. He is a terrific pick for a team, but the route the Bears took to get him makes it seem like an idiotic pick.
The details of how the trade went down will always be unknown. Were other quarterback needing teams on the line for a potential trade? Did Ryan Pace panic? Is the Bears front office regretting it today? Did the 49ers possibly trick the Bears? We will never know, but the thing we do know is our opinion. In the eyes of most fans, it is a bad trade. But, if there was agreement in the Bears' war room, then it must of been the best option for the future of the Chicago Bears.
With that all being said... it must be a very confusing and frustrating day for the fans of the Chicago Bears.
