Looking at Eagles' Future Draft Picks
Back when the Philadelphia Eagles made their trade to acquire Carson Wentz, there were people claiming that the organization "mortgaged the future" for a player that may not pan out. At the time, the argument could certainly have been made for that. However, after yesterday's trade of Sam Bradford, things have definitely changed, in that respect. The Birds were able to capitalize on Bradford's strong preseason, and rebuild their future assets that they used to acquire their new "face of the franchise." Below is an updated list of the future draft picks currently owned by the Eagles. My, how things have changed.

The Eagles were set to enter the 2016-17 season without a first-round draft pick, since they traded it to Cleveland as part of the package for Carson Wentz. Well, they now have a first-round pick, again. It's not their own pick, as that still belongs to the Browns. But, yesterday's trade of Sam Bradford netted the Birds a 2017 first-round pick. As part of the Wentz deal this past spring, the Eagles also acquired an additional fourth-round pick. With such a deep talent pool in the upcoming draft class, the Birds have more than enough assets to add a solid group of talent to this team, come next April.

2018 is the final year, that the package the Eagles paid for Wentz will still have an effect on their draft picks. As part of the package for Wentz, the Eagles surrendered their 2018 second-round pick, seemingly leaving them without one. However, yesterday's Bradford trade could have an effect on that. The fourth-round pick acquired in yesterday's deal, could become a third-round pick in the event that Minnesota reaches the NFC Championship game. If the Vikings were to win the Super Bowl, then the fourth-round pick will become a second-round pick, thus giving the Eagles a full compliment of draft picks in back-to-back years. However, if the Eagles were to receive anything higher than that fourth-round pick, they would need to send their own seventh-rounder back to Minnesota.

2019 will be the first season, where the Eagles don't owe any picks to the Browns as part of the Wentz deal, and will have all of THEIR OWN draft picks. Some believed that the Eagles overpaid significantly, to acquire Wentz, thus stripping the organization of the chance to add young talent to the team through the draft. Yesterday's trade of Sam Bradford has seemingly silenced those critics, as the Eagles now have a full compliment of picks in 2017, and could potentially have a full compliment of picks in 2018.
The Wentz deal doesn't look so bad now, huh?
