My thoughts are it's a wait and see with this kid as it would be with any other player taken number one overall. Mickey doesn't have the power yet but he is a very good hitter that makes contact and he has very good speed. The guy hit .476 this past season as a senior in high school, his power started to show later on in the season, he also had double digits in triples with 12. He probably could hit anywhere from leading off to hitting fifth, he is that good of hitter. As far as the power goes he will develop that with time. We probably won't see this guy for at least a few seasons unless he just blooms faster than expected. I estimate 2020-2022 is when he comes up to the big leagues hopefully sooner. The sooner he comes up the better because that means he is developing in the minors really well and the Phillies made the right decision in drafting him number one overall.

Finally, there will be high exceptions for him as there is for any number one overall pick and hopefully he lives up to them and the Philies don't rush him up because he's the number one pick. The Phillies need to make sure the kid is ready before being him up, they need to put good coaches around him. The kid loves the game of baseball and that's only a good thing. Phillies fans should be excited about this kid, I think he will be a fan favorite from the get go. I'm looking forward to watching him develop and becoming a very good baseball player. Will he be the real deal? Who knows! I'm excited about the future and hopefully Mickey is part of it for years to come and beyond.

Final Note: Mickey has already made a commitment to UCLA before the draft but since he was picked number one overall I would expect him to sign with the Phillies and start his Pro baseball career. From what I got from the interview it seems like he will for sure sign with them. It's something to keep an eye on. I would be surprised if he want to UCLA.
