The Pros and Cons of Re-signing Sam Bradford

For about the last week and half the Eagles, have signed some key young players to new deals. Tight End, Zach Ertz (Five year extension worth $42.5 million/$20 million guaranteed), Tight End, Brent Celek (Three year extension worth $13 million/$6 million guaranteed), Offensive Tackle, Lane Johnson (Five year extension worth $63 million/$35.5 million guaranteed) and Defensive End, Vinny Curry ($47.5 million/$23 million guaranteed). They're in discussion with Defensive Tackle, Fletcher Cox on a long term deal. I expect it to be probably a five year deal worth $100-110 million close to what Ndamukong Suh got last off-season.

Now the big question that many Eagles fans have is will the Eagles re-sign Quarterback, Sam Bradford when he becomes a free agent next month. Eagles' new head coach was on the Mike Missanelli show 97.5 the Fanatic yesterday afternoon. Click here to listen to the entire interview. He isn't committing to being Bradford back and him being his starting QB next season.

Here are some Pros and Cons of why the Eagles should re-sign Sam Bradford:

Pros:

1. He played pretty good in the second half of the season.

2. He's the best free agent QB and probably better than anybody in the draft.

3. A lot of the players believe in him and want him back.

4. He's played in the West Coast offense with the St. Louis Rams.

5. The Eagles have a better chance of making the playoffs with him next season.

Cons:

1. He's injury prone and signing him to a long term deal may come back to bite the Eagles.

2. He's not worth what he will ask for which will probably be around $20-25 million per year.

3. He didn't really play all that great in the first half of the season.

4. He really doesn't have that great accuracy and doesn't throw the deep ball really all that good.

5. He's never been in the playoffs before.

Finally, I don't want the Eagles to resign him especially if he asks for over $20 million. I would rather start fresh with a new young quarterback. I'm fine with going with Mark Sanchez or Chase Daniel (backup QB for the Kansas City Chiefs) for one or two years while the young quarterback learns. They either need to draft a QB in this year's draft or next year. I think resigning Bradford for anything over $20 million will be a huge mistake because of his injury history.
