Who To Bet At The Indy 500 And Who To Stay Away From

The Indy 500 is upon us again. I'll take my spot on the top row of turn four and enjoy the racing. Here is who I'm rolling with for the Indy 500.

WHO TO BET:

Ryan Hunter Reay (12-1): The 2014 champion was having a solid run until he was taken on Pit road which ended his chances of winning. Hunter Reay has ran the Indy 500 9 times in his career and he has finished in the top 6 three times. He will start in the 5th row on the outside. When he won in 2014 he started 19th. He is having a solid year with two top 5's already.

Graham Rahal (40-1): He doesn't really ever put a good qualifying run together here at Indy, but that doesn't stop him. This is Rahal's 9th running at Indy and he has started in the top 10 just twice, but he has put two good runs together the last two years and he has two career top 5's. Rahal will start on the outside of row 7.

Carlos Munoz (50-1): This is his 5th race here at Indy and he has been consistent. In 3 of his 4 Indy 500's he has finished in the top 4 including a runner up postion twice, 2013 and last year. The only time he did not finish in the top 4 he finished 20th. Munoz is my favorite bet just because he is at 50-1. He will win at Indy before his career is over. He will start on the outside of the 12th row.

WHO TO STAY AWARE FROM:

Scott Dixon (6-1): For some reason, I just don't like betting the favorite or the pole sitter. He has been the fastest car all week, but he was the last person to win the pole and the race, and that was in 2008.

Fernando Alonso (10-1): This is his first ever Indy car race and that is a good enough reason to stay away from him. Before Alexander Rossi last year, rookies have had no luck at Indy. Alonso is a star is Formula 1, but I do not think he'll be able to win this week.

The Field (20-1): This includes James Davidson, Zach Veach, Sebastian Saaverda, Buddy Lazier, Spencer Pigot, Pippa Mann, Conor Daly, Gabby Chavez, Sage Karam, and Jay Howard. The only one in this group who has won it is Buddy Lazier, but that was years ago and no one in this group has really ever been close. I do like the cars of Daly and Karam though.
