Return Of The King
Yesterday the New York Mets signed their man to lead them into the next 4 years. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and the Mets agreed to a 4-year contract worth $110 million. Pitcher Noah Syndergaard sent out a tweet saying, "Return of the King," as a reference to the Lion King.
Cespedes (30) is a 5 year veteran who has a career batting average of .272. He has hit a career 137 home runs (an average of 27.4/season), and has 453 RBIs (90.6/season). He also has a career slugging percentage of .494. He is a two time All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award last year.
Last season, Cespedes hit .280 with 31 home runs and 86 RBIs. This was during a season where he landed on the DL in August. Still, Cespedes played 132 and made it to the All-Star team.
Since coming over to the Mets, Cespedes has provided a winning caliber for the Mets. Before they traded for him in 2015, the Mets were 3 games behind the NL East leading Washington Nationals. However a the July 31 trade deadline, the Mets traded for Cespedes. They then wound up not only catching the Nationals but surpassing them, winning the NL East by 7 games and going to the World Series. Then last season upon his return from the DL, Cespedes helped the Mets comeback and clinch the NL Wildcard spot. This was after falling to 60-62 on August 20.
At a press conference today, Cespedes said that he loves playing in New York, and the Mets feel like home. He also said that he vows to bring a World Series title to the New York Mets organization. For his winning aura, the Mets gave Cespedes a no-trade clause in his contract, which means the Mets can't trade Cespedes unless he okay's the deal. Cespedes even said that he hopes to finish his career with the Mets. As a Mets fan, all I can say is Yo Better Believe!
