I couldn't help but chuckle a little earlier this year when I discovered that Bon Homme's Chase Kortan hadn't graduated. I'd seen him win the Class A state long jump title last spring, and he looks like a 22-year old man, so I figured he'd be off doing something in college.

Nope, only a junior last spring and Kortan started his senior season by putting up some terrific numbers on the football field. Wide Receiver — Chase Kortan, Sr., Bon Homme: Caught 52 passes for 561 yards, and scored 140 of the team's 276 points. For his career, caught 152 passes for 1,853 yards and scored a school-record 456 points.

Kortan was named to the South Dakota Class 9AA all-state football team for his efforts.

Don't know much about Bon Homme football other than they went 5-3 in the regular season. Kind of an interesting side note but I was driving to the state cross-country meet in Brookings in October and a radio station over there was promising a great first-round game between Bon Homme and Mt. Vernon Plankinton. Oh was he right, as Mt. Vernon/Plankinton escaped with a 42-37.

Guessing that was a pretty tough walk to the locker room for Kortan.

Don't know if the MAN plays basketball or wrestles, but sure know he spends some time working in the weight room.

Looking for some big things in track in the next few months, that's for sure. And maybe baseball...
