Ducked into the office for a minute on this cold and wintry evening and heard the news that Winner 7th grader, Kade Watson is undergoing heart surgery tomorrow after a screening found a problem.
Some heavy duty thoughts and prayers coming to the family from all across South Dakota tonight....
This little guy is a fighter....Only a 7th grader, Watson finished as the top Winner runner and the highest 7th grade finisher in Class A cross country when he lit up the Huron course by running an 18:15 5k race.
That's wicked fast....Heart of a champion....You Got this......!!
One of the really cool things about covering sports in South Dakota is seeing young people, new faces emerge. Every so often, you see an exceptional junior high girl come along...It's freaking rare to see a middle-school boy doing something special in high school sports.
Watson just missed a podium spot this year at the state meet and it was a personal thrill to see him develop this season and fight and get up there with the big boys.
