Jerry Jones Isn't Going To Screw This Up............Is He?
?
Here's the 1,000,000th article you're going to read this week that will include Dak Prescott's name. We all know the story. Tony Romo was injured, again. Dak Prescott is asked to hopefully hold the team together for 8 weeks or so. Cross their fingers he gets a 4-4 record out of it. And then Romo comes in and gives the Cowboys the push they need to have a shot at the playoffs.
Well maybe the fans in Dallas crossed their fingers a little too hard. Because now they have a real situation on their hands. And it's only a situation because of an owner who is known for screwing things up, is giving the hint that he may once again intervene. Jerry Jones may be the best thing that's ever happened to the Dallas Cowboys. But he's his own worst enemy. And he's putting himself in a position to do that again.
I'll admit, when the Cowboys were 2-1, I thought the idea of Dak taking over the starting job was ridiculous. I saw a 4 game schedule ahead of Dallas that included an away game at San Francisco, Cincinnati at home, Green Bay on the road, and after a bye week, Philadelphia at home. I figured the wheels would start to rattle in that time frame. I expected Dallas to go 1-3 in that stretch or 2-2 at best. If that were the case, the Cowboys would have been 3-4 after 7 games and it would be Romo's job when he returns, or Dallas would be 4-3 and a debate about the starting job would be understandable. But in the end, I felt it would still be Romo's job.
Well here we are after 3 of those 4 games and Dak has lead the Cowboys to 3-0 in those games with one more to go and they're sitting pretty at 5-1, and most importantly are in sole possession of 1st place in thr NFC East at the momet.
At this point it doesn't matter if Dallas loses to Philadelphia after the bye week. Dak would still be 3-1 over that 4 game stretch and the Cowboys would still be 5-2 after 7 games. Dak has progressed each week. He looks more comfortable each week. He's no longer managing football games like he was earlier in the season. He's making the plays that matter. It may not be the plan Dallas had going into the season, but there is no going back now. This is Dak's job. This is Dak's team. It's already been decided he's the future. But that future is now.
So what's the problem? Jerry Jones. Every time a camera is in his face and he insists this is Romo's team, he is slowly drawing a line between his guys and dividing a locker room. All he has to do is shut up. But over the years we've learned that's near impossible for Jones to do. Leave this call up to Jason Garrett. Back out of this particular conversation, or you may be the reason your team implodes this year.
