Aaron Rodgers Needs To Be More Of A Game Manager In 2016

Even though Aaron Rodgers has been the face of the Green Bay Packer franchise for the past eight years, the organization should really consider turning Rodgers into more of a game manager. Ever since Aaron Rodgers became the starting quarterback of the Packers in 2008, the team has s continued to implement an offensive system that heavily relied on the passing game in an attempt to maximize the use of his ability to make the right decisions with the football, push the ball down the field and extend plays with his legs. Due to this, the Packers were 18th in the league in passing attempts per game as they averaged 36.3 per game according to team rankings. While this offensive system has led the team to a championship in 2012, it should prevent them from achieving that same objective during this season. Due to the fact that, Rodgers should be under constant pressure from opposing defensives since the offensive line isn’t strong and/or quick enough to hold their blocks. As a result of this, Rodgers should not have enough time to sit in the pocket and go thru his reads to make a good throw, which leaves him more susceptible to being hit, taking a sack or throwing an interception. As a result, it increases the likelihood that the offense has shorter drivers, which result in the defense having to go back on the field without the proper amount of rest. Which leads to the defense being more susceptible to giving up yards and points because they were not able to regain some energy between possessions to be able to stop the opposing offense.

As a result of this, the Packers should consider turning Aaron Rodgers into more of a game manager where he has to hand the ball off to the running backs more often thus it will increase the likelihood that the opposing defense stacks the box. Once the Packers make the opposing defense honor the running game by stacking the box then they will incorporate the passing game. The Packers may run a lot of play-action passes due to the fact that they can fake the handoff to the running backs making the opposing defense believe that he going to run the ball. As a result, the opposing defense will keep the box stacked this will give the Packers receivers more man-to-man coverage. This will allow Aaron Rodgers to have more open space on the field to throw his receivers to the ball so they can make easier catches .The combination of these factors decreases the likelihood of Rodgers being hit, taking a sack or throwing an interception while at the same time allowing the offense to stay on the field for a prolonged period of time. Which means that the defense received the proper rest between drives which enabled them to have enough energy to execute a properly tackle to a player when they are running with the ball or being able to keep up with wide receivers. If the organization turns Rodgers into more of a game manager, they will become one of the few teams who have a real shot at winning the super bowl.
