Even though, most people who follow the NBA perceive Derrick Rose to be a major upgrade over José Calderón, there is a strong possibility that the New York Knicks will misuse Rose. This is because in the triangle offense the point guard is usually relegated to being a player who tends to hover around the three point line and most of the time he will take a long two point shot or a three. For instance, on some possessions, the Knicks will have the point guard bring the ball up to the three point line and pass it to the big man/ forward who is posting up in the mid-block area. Then the point guard who is standing at the wing will trade places with the forward who is standing in the corner, during this sequence the forward will sometimes set a screen in an attempt to create some space for the point guard to shoot. As a result, This would essentially translate into Rose taking more shots from behind the arc, which means that the Knicks would be accentuating his weakness instead of strength because according to basketball reference he shoots 30.2 percent from behind the arc.

Therefore, it will behoove the Knicks to feature more of a traditional offense with the guards being the primary ball handlers as a result, they would accentuate his strengths which are his speed and explosiveness. If they decide to do this, he will bring the ball up the floor and focus on attacking the basket thus he will be able to put pressure on the defense to make a decision on whether they will double-team him or not. If the defense double-teams Rose, he will most likely pass it to the perimeter for an open shot which means more open looks for Carmelo and Kristaps. If they do not he will shoot a jumper or drive depending on whether the defense sags off or plays close to him. But unfortunately Phil Jackson only believes in the triangle offense thus this scenario most likely won't come to fruition.
