Boston Red Sox Spring Training Preview

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox were mowed down by the dominance of the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS last season. They are one of the favorites to win it all this season. David Ortiz retired in the offseason.

How will the post Ortiz ERA favor them? It should be just fine. They made a splash by acquiring Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox, but they traded Yoan Moncada.

He will probably be the number one starter in the rotation. David Price injured his elbow in spring training, but it is nothing major. He will probably be the number two starter. Rick Porcello, Steven Wright, and Drew Pomeranz will be the other starters.

Craig Kimbrel will probably be the closer.  Sandy Leon will most likely be the catcher for Boston.  Pablo Sandoval, Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia, and Mitch Moreland will probably be the starting infielders. Brock Holt will be a very reliable utility player.

Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Mookie Betts will probably be the starting outfielders. Chris Young will also be a reliable backup for them.

Projected opening day lineup: 1.(2B) Dustin Pedroia 2. (LF) Andrew Benintendi 3. (RF) Mookie Betts 4. (SS) Xander Bogaerts 5. (DH) Hanley Ramirez 6. (CF) Jackie Bradley Jr. 7. (3B) Pablo Sandoval 8. (1B) Mitch Moreland 9. (C) Sandy Leon.

The Boston Red Sox will open up against the Pittsburgh Pirates at home on April 3rd.
