One monster mistake by the pitcher can cost a team when the score is 0-0 in the 9th inning. Conor Gillaspie capitalized on a 3-run homer when Jeurys Familia threw him a curve ball over the plate. Those were the only runs scored in the game.
Familia chokes when the game is on the line once again. Key players like Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce were a combined 0 for 7 at the plate.
Once again, Madison Bumgarner was brilliant on the mound. He threw a complete game, 4-hit shutout. He walked 2 batters and struck out 6.
Noah Syndergaard pitched well for the Mets. He went 7 innings and gave up 2 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 10. His performance was obviously overshadowed by Bumgarner.
San Francisco will travel to face the best team in the MLB, the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
