Goal Line Stand Lifts Seahawks over Patriots
Just like in Super Bowl 49, the Patriots intercepted Russell Wilson on the goal line to seal the win. Would the script be flipped this time around. With New England trailing 31 to 24 in the fourth-quarter with 43 seconds remaining, they had 4 chances inside the Seattle 2 yard-line. The Patriots failed all four times, including a fourth-and-1 play pass play intended for Rob Gronkowski in the end zone. It would seal a Seattle victory.
In the first quarter, LeGarrette Blount scored on a 1-yard rush. In the second quarter, Russell Wilson threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin, but the extra-point was blocked. Blount scored his second touchdown of the game from 1-yard out. Before halftime, Wilson threw another touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin from 18 yards out.
In the third quarter, Blount scored his third touchdown of the game. He finished with 69 yards rushing also. Tom Brady had 316 passing yards and 1 interception.
With Seattle trailing 24 to 22, Steven Hauschka kicked the game winning field goal with 8:59 remaining. He made 4 field goals in the game from 27,31,41, and 23 yards out. Wilson threw one more touchdown pass to Baldwin later in the period.
Wilson finished with 348 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Baldwin finished with 6 catches for 59 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. They decided to go for 2 after the touchdown to make it a 2 possession game, but failed.
Seattle's X-Factor tonight was definitely running back C.J. Prosise. He had 66 rushing yards and 7 catches for 87 receiving yards.
The Seahawks will face the Philadelphia Eagles (5-4) next Sunday.
