Walk Off Homerun Lifts Blue Jays past Orioles
Would home-runs be booming in Toronto on Tuesday Night? The AL Wild Card match-up featured the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays, who both love to hit the home-run ball. Toronto defeated Baltimore in 11 innings 5 to 2, on Edwin Encarnacion's 3-run homer.
The biggest question for the Orioles is why wasn't Zach Britton used in the 9th inning or later? He is the team's closer, but he was also lights out all season long. Why would they use Ublado Jimenez in the 11th inning to face Toronto's top hitters? Zach Britton should have been the man instead even if it wasn't a save situation.
Jimenez was the losing pitcher for the Orioles as he gave up 3 hits and no outs were recorded. Francisco Liriano was the winning pitcher for the Blue Jays. He pitched 1.2 innings and struck out 1 batter.
Toronto's other runs came in the 2nd-inning on a solo home-run by Jose Bautista and in the 5th-inning by Ezequiel Carrera. Balitmore's only runs of the game came in the 4th-inning on a 2-run homer by Mark Trumbo.
Toronto will travel to play the Texas Rangers in the ALDS.
