On the Heels of Bengals/Bears, Lazor Deserves a Look.

The natural disaster has happened. The Chicago Bears have fell through the cracks of disgrace yet again. The Bears will honor another losing season which has a streak going strong at 7. The Bears will now play the final 4 games of the season for draft position which is all too common during the George McCaskey era as chairman. Where do the Bears go from here? Is Ryan’s Paces job in jeopardy? I think we already know the case for John Fox who was found guilty of consistent losing. Fact of the matter is at least we know change is coming from the head coaching position, but questions remain about the GM position Pace currently holds. What coach can fix this eroded karma the Bears have experienced since McCaskey has taken over as chairman?

Mitchell Trubisky’s play seems to have regressed in recent weeks. Trubisky still remains confident however we’ve yet to see a hallmark game which can give the fan base hope or a glimpse of what’s yet to come. The Bears are yet again facing a perspective coaching change. Marc Trestman was a gamble that blew up in the organizations face, while Fox seemed like a safe hire but even Fox looks like a hire that happened at the wrong time. Fox resembles a coach who needs a retirement home in Arizona more than a fresh start somewhere else.

The Bears will play a Cincinnati team who may have a gem in the coaching ranks. Bill Lazor is not a well-known name but he should be taken very seriously. Lazor, a Cornell University (IVY League) alumnus with a degree in Human Development something the Bears seem to lack over the past 7 years just flip human for player. Lazor has done a remarkable job with Nick Foles during his lone pro bowl season in 2013. Foles recorded a career high 27 TDs and 2 Ints. Remember that Bears game at Lincoln Financial Field on that warm December night in 2013? Final score 54-11? Oh yea when the Bears made Foles look like Joe Montana but Foles also had a good quarterback coach in Lazor. Lazor has also tutored Ryan Tannehill to one his best NFL seasons in 2014 when he threw 27 TDS and only 12 INTS. Why didn’t Lazor last in Miami? Joe Philbin was fired in the 2015 season which also sealed Lazors’ fate later during the 2015 season. As a fan you must understand just because Lazor was fired it doesn’t mean he did a terrible job it was more of then interim coach Dan Campbell having a vision that didn’t involve Lazor.

The only knock on Lazor is he doesn’t have as much experience as an offensive coordinator however neither did Andy Reid or John Harbaugh. Its all about leadership in the NFL and Lazor seems to have a presence that the Bears organization needs. Lazor is only 45 years old, he’s worked with some of the greatest offensive minds in NFL history from Joe Gibbs to Mike Holmgren. If I’m embattled GM Ryan Pace I’m paying close attention to the Bengals Offense and not the Bears. The Bears should be focused on their next leader for the incoming decade. Lazor will bring attitude, discipline, and toughness to the Bears organization which the team has lacked in almost forever, even the Lovie Smith era had on-field discipline issues. Why am I so high on Lazor you ask? Lazor has the look. When you think of Chicago you think Capone, toughness, strong willed. Lazor has a look that reflects the city. John Fox doesn’t have the look which may reflects why he failed. I think differently when it comes to head coaches and to be honest I strongly believe a coach should have a look to match the city. Lazor fits the bill and should be strongly considered as the next leader of the charter franchise.
