The Eagles should not get in Panic

In every decision or activity in the life, we always wants to have the things in our own way and with immediate results. Naturally, the human is not patient and sometimes that hastiness leads us to take bad decisions. One clearly example is what is happening with the Philadelphia Eagles this season and the roller coaster of reactions and emotions of the fans. We heard so many comments in favor and against Eagles due the inconsistency, beating great teams this season as Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings with outstanding performances, and losing badly games with Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. The last Sunday Night Football lost against Cowboys was the pike of the mad reactions of most of the Eagles fans, and some journalist and newspaper started to say that Dak Prescott is better than Carson Wentz, and some other irresponsible comments without analyze better the situation, anyway you know that the media always get on the bus of the most popular team at the moment, and yes, maybe the cowboys are having a great season and maybe they will be the contenders #1 in the NFC to face the AFC team in the Super Bowl, but we have to deeply analyze the situation of the Eagles here and what is the role of the team this season against those contenders.

If we use the comparison of the media and people do between Prescott and Wentz, both rookies and promises on the NFL, we can say that Prescott total yards are 1,773-yards and Wentz 1,526-yards, with 2 and 3 Interceptions respectively. Prescott have 144/ 221 Comp/ Att with 9-TD and Wentz 150/ 228 Comp/ Att with 9-TD too. Cowboys are 6-1 this season, and Eagles 4-3. At first sight, both players have great numbers to be their first season, with slightly better numbers to the Cowboys QB, but there is a huge difference that the people is not taking in count, and it is the team that they have each one and the coaching staff who managed the situation week by week. The damaged that caused Chip Kelly to the Eagles a couple of years ago, getting rid of key players as DeSean Jackson or Jeremy Maclin, and the bad decision taking at the draft, is the cause why the Eagles are continue struggling in the NFL. Owner Jeff Laurie and GM Howie Roseman took the best decision in resign Kelly´s contract last season, and they started to fix all the mess caused, trading Kelly´s players and relying on those who can help the team in the success. Drafting a #2 Overall position and trading for some players to build a good defense were risky but smart moves by Roseman, but they know all of this is a process and we cannot see prompt results, mostly with that they needed to build the team from zero. The first sign of success was that Carson Wentz demonstrated that he is able to lead the team, he is competitive on the field and an example off the field, that is why he earned some comparison with Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers, because he likes to work hard and not to be on the loop of the newspaper with a rockstar lifestyle. Since week 1, he showed some great skills and earned the tittle of Rookie of the week several times, Rookie of the Month and Offensive Player of the Month. But some of you say that Cowboys have rookies too in Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliot, both with great numbers and performances and maybe the best offensive tandem in the league. But the big difference is that Cowboys have a completely built team, they have Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams as their air weapons and all of them are veterans and beasts in their positions, enough said. Cowboys have Lance Dunbar, Alfred Morris and Ezekiel Elliot as their Running Backs; and Sean Lee, Morris Clairbone and Orlando Scandrick as their defense leaders. What the Eagles have? A good veteran RB Darren Sproles, a promise RB in Wendell Smallwood and a pretty good Defense with leaders as Fletcher Cox, Rodney Mcleod, Nigel Bradham, Brandon Graham and Jordan Hicks. Aside from that, the Eagles have nothing, in other words, they have a good defense who can run the game, and the offense is just Carson Wentz with zero WR, TE and a predictable Offensive line protection with a suspended Lane Johnson. But the biggest difference here is the coaching staff, Jason Garret has 6 year experience as Cowboys head coach, and Eagles Doug Pederson is his 1st season as head coach in his life, he is doing great, but he is a rookie and he can take some rookie bad decisions, it´s allowed, the same case of Carson Wentz, they are learning. Last sunday the Eagles competed against an experienced Cowboys team and gave us an amazing game. The Eagles defense blocked the main weapon of Cowboys Ezekiel Elliot and they did not allow him to rush yards, but despite a good defense and a good Carson Wentz, the Eagles struggled with their offense who supposed to give you production every game.

The Eagles fans need to understand that this is a re-build season, a first season of a success road, an adaptation stage and a formation phase. It is true that they have important holes to fill, for example the position of WR, DE, CB and RB, but it is already a win that they found a franchise QB in Carson Wentz who can lead the team to the success. Since the great Donovan MacNabb, the Eagles did not found a competitive and talented QB, and now they have Wentz to command the team. They also improve their defense and they just need to fix some few issues, so the next step in the offseason will be to fix the main problem in their offense, by chasing a confident hands to catch Carson passes, and some backups in the O-line to protect better their QB. This season is not a Super Bowl season, it is a long road to the success and we cannot expect results if Laurie, Roseman and Pederson are building a team from the bottom. They are in a good path, taking great decisions and with a bright future, but the fans needs to be patient and accept that the team needs to go step-by-step. The cases of New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos or Pittsburgh Steelers were not random or obtained results by one year to another. They build their teams from the bottom to the top, and that is why they are successful franchises. The Eagles should not get in panic, maybe this season they will suffer to see that their rival Cowboys will get the playoffs or Super Bowl, but if they continue taking smart decisions and keep helping their talent to get in shape, maybe in a couple of years we are going to talk about the start of the Eagles dynasty in the NFL.
