Bryan Colangelo named the new Sixers' GM!
Several days (nights) ago, Sam Hinkie resigned as Sixers' General Manager and President of Basketball operations. Several hours after resigning from his positions, reports surfaced that the Sixers would name Bryan Colangelo as the new Sixers GM. Bryan is the son of Sixers' Chairman of Basketball Operations, Jerry Colangelo. The Sixers haven't officially announced him as the new GM that will happen on Monday when they introduce him at a press conference.

Bryan, started his NBA executive'front-office career with the Phoenix Suns when his father was the owner of the team. He spent the 15 years with the Suns organization, the last 11 years was as GM. On February 28, 2006, he went to the Toronto Raptors to become the new President and General Manager a day after resigning as the Suns' GM. Bryan left the Raptors on June 26, 2013, a month prior to him leaving the Raptors informed Bryan that they were looking for a new GM and that he would remain as Team's President.
He's a two time Executive of the Year winning the award in 2005 with the Suns and then again in 2007 with the Raptors. His biggest move as GM was drafting Shawn Marion and Amar'e Stoudemire both would become multiple time all star. One of the most criticized moves he made was trading Jason Kidd for Stephon Marbury but he was able to trade Marbury and Penny Hardaway to the New York Knicks for several contracts a few years later.
Another, criticized move was when he drafted Andrea Bargnani (who was compared to Dirk Nowitzki) number one overall in 2006 instead of drafting LaMarcus Aldridge who was picked second overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. It's safe to say Bargnani didn't become the next "Dirk" he wasn't even close to being the next Dirk. He was a complete bust and Bryan made the wrong choice that night.
At the end of the day Bryan Colangelo, was a fairly decent GM with both the Suns and Raptors however, didn't win any NBA championships. Let's face it Bryan got this job because of his father it was just a matter of time until before he became general manager of the Sixers. His father wanted his son the day he became the Chairman of basketball of operations. Before Sam Hinkie, decided to step down, he was offered a lesser position in the organization, what the position was we probably will never know. It could of been just being the Co-General Manager with Bryan. Bryan would be the guy to make the moves and Hinkie would be the "numbers guy" but who knows. And this point it really doesn't matter anymore. I'll give Bryan a chance like I would with any new GM or coach but he better not screw this up by signing mid-level free agents just to be competitive. I don't went any mid-level free agents just to be competitive, I went him and his father to finish what Sam started, finish the process. I'm afraid he will do that but who knows it's a wait and see.
