Lucha Underground Results for 11-16-2016: Aztec Warfare III Crowns a New Champion

Tonight's entire episode was dedicated to the annual 20-person battle royale.  Unlike WWE's Royal Rumble--or anyone else's battle royale, really--in order to be eliminated in Aztec Warfare, you have to be pinned or submitted.  Being thrown over the top rope does not eliminate you.

Interestingly enough, there were happenings before the match even began.  Dario Cueto was walking down a hall to fetch his brother, Matanza, and bumped into Johnny Mundo.  The Gift of the Gods Champion told Dario that he would be enacting his championship match next week if he didn't win Aztec Warfare.  Dario thought it was a shrewd move, and noticed that Mundo had his entrance number in his hand; 12.  Dario grabbed it, tore it in half, and told Mundo, if he was so confident, why not enter at number two.  The Worldwide Underground member was displeased at the unexpected announcement, but had no choice but to comply.

As for the match itself, this was the most hardcore Aztec Warfare to date.  The previous two don't come close to the amount of weapons used, and how often they were used.  And they came into play at the end of the match too.

Sexy Star is the new Lucha Underground Champion.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, Sexy Star is your new Lucha Underground Champion.  A much deserved honor for a lucha libre veteran such as herself.  I don't know how long her reign will be, but I will always remember where I was when I saw Star become the Lucha Underground Champion.  Her victory certainly marked a new day in professional wrestling history.  Honestly, had I known such a momentous event was going to occur, I wouldn't have chosen the format I was going to write this article in beforehand.  I just don't feel that I am giving this moment in time its proper due.  Regardless of article format, I know that all of you out there know how significant it is to have Sexy Star holding a promotion's world championship.  Time will tell if other promotions ever follow suit, even if only once in their history, but at least Lucha Underground can say that they were the first ones to have a woman as the champion of their entire organization.
