Colome's Riggin Shippy had a heck of a tournament for Winner AREA
When Winner Area's Riggin Shippy stepped onto the mat for his first round match at 160 pounds at the Rapid City Invitational, all eyes were on his opponent, Parker Wahl of Bismarck. Wahl won the Mandan Invitational and entered the Rapid City tournament as the No. 2 seed in his weight class.
And so, with all eyes in the arena peeled to see how long the sacrificial lamb could last, Riggin Shippy went out and won the match. Gutty effort from Shippy who eked out a 10-9 win.
And he wasn't done...
Shippy then pinned Mandan North Dakota's Myles Scholsser in round two.
In the quarters, Shippy was pinned by Philip's Keagan Fitch, who went on to finish second.
And in the consolation match, Shippy was decisioned by Huron's Travis Kleinsasser.
Terrific stuff from Shippy and am looking for him to continue to improve and really give this Winner squad another stud in the lineup.
Kind of a historical moment for Shippy and the town of Colome who is working hard to get their little kids program off the ground. Shippy is the first Colome wrestler, ever to make varsity for Winner. He might be the first but he won't be the last.
