Wyatt Turnquist - Heart of a champion....
Wyatt Turnquist is in the semis at the Rapid City Invitational.
Had to get a basketball blog off my brain first thing this morning, but the second thing I did was check results from the Rapid City Invitational wrestling tournament. Pulled up Winner right away and after scrolling through the results of a BEAST of a tournament, Winner 113 pounder, Wyatt Turnquist is the only Warrior that advanced to the semifinals.
That's a monstrous effort!
Turnquist opened with a 7-2 decision over Max Donovan of Chamberlain, then, defeated Tristan Permann of Sturgis 6-4. Turnquist. He'll tangle with Eli Kadoun of Sioux Falls Roosevelt this morning with the hopes of reaching the final.
That Turnquist is even on the mat, let alone, in the semis at Rapid City is pretty freaking amazing.
Several weeks ago, Turnquist came to one of his parents' work and said he was having chest pain. Well, after consultation, the Turnquist family saw their son taken to Sioux Falls via ambulance where he and they spent three days in the Pediatric ICU at McKennan Hospital for a, pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax, which is air around his heart and lungs.
Well, after a lot of tubes and a lot of poking and prodding and testing the doctors told the Turnquists there sone was going to be ok.
And the first thing Turnquist asked was would he be able to wrestle.
While the condition won't hinder his wrestling, it's kind of a scary thing as Turnquist was advised not to fly or scuba-dive because of the change of pressure involved. He has orders from the doctors that if he has any kind of chest pain, in any way, to get to the nearest emergency room.
Well, so far so good as Turnquist's only loss of the season has come to Philip's Jadyn Collier.

Of note, Winner 285 pounder, Tre Doran didn't wrestle the tournament as he is taking the ACT's in Spearfish today.
