Doug Pederson to become the New Philadelphia Eagles' Head Coach!
According to several sources including a league source, the Philadelphia Eagles will hire Kansas City's offensive coordinator, Doug Pederson as the next head coach. The Eagles can't not offically offer or announce this until the Chiefs either are eliminated from the playoffs or win the Super-Bowl. This report comes after Ben McAdoo (Who was hired by the New York Giants today) who as of yesterday was the "leading candidate" to become the Eagles next coach, Tom Coughlin who as of this morning look like he was gonna be the next coach. Coughlin talked with the Eagles this morning and was gonna meet with them face to face again but early this afternoon decided not to meet with them and took himself out of contention. And now Doug Pederson as of earlier this evening at around 5:30 PM ET Les Bowen, of philly.com reported he will indeed be the next head coach.
Tweets from NFL reporters:
Ian Rapport on Tom Coughlin:
#Eagles talks with Tom Coughlin have intensified, as well. This could all go down very quickly. He seems to have wrapped his head around it
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 14, 2016There are "ongoing discussions" between Tom Coughlin and the #Eagles as we speak. Some questions to answer. But they are far down the line.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 14, 2016My understanding is the #Eagles are set for a face-to-face meeting with Tom Coughlin today. Should be a lot more in-depth than last time.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 14, 2016Tom Coughlin has withdrawn his name from being considered for the #Eagles job, source said (as @AdamSchefter reported).
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 14, 2016Moving on from Tom Coughlin onto Doug Pederson:
Les Bowen first reported about Pederson being the next head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles:
Doug Pederson will be the #Eagles coach, league source confirms.
— Les Bowen (@LesBowen) January 14, 2016Ian Rapoport confirms the original report
The #Eagles are hiring #Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as their he'd coach as soon as his season is finished, source said. @LesBowen on it first.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 14, 2016Albert Breer confirming it:
As @LesBowen reported, Chiefs OC Doug Pederson will be the Eagles' next coach. They have to wait for KC's season to end to make it official.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 14, 2016Another confirmation this time by Zach Berman:
Eagles are set to hire Doug Pederson. They need to wait until the Chiefs' season is finished. Chiefs play the Patriots on Saturday.
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) January 14, 2016Reuben Frank of CSN Philly confirming:
Confirming Les' report: Doug Pederson will be the next Eagles head coach. Good work by Les nailing this one down.
— Reuben Frank (@RoobCSN) January 14, 2016And finally Howard "The Idiot" Eskin confirming the same guy that thought Tom Coughlin would be the next Head Coach:
League sources have confirmed #Eagles have selected their new HC. It's #Chiefs OC Doug Pederson. Can't announce officially until KC plays
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) January 14, 2016The Kansas City Chiefs play the defending Super-Bowl Champions the New England Patriots this Saturday in the AFC Divisional round. So as early as Sunday the Eagles could announce Pederson as the new Head coach however, if the Chiefs win then we wait another week. On an interesting note for the people that question this hiring, Pederson took over the Chiefs' playcalling after they started 1-5 and have won since winning their last ten regular season games and last week in the Wild card round against the Houston Texans.
Chiefs' Head Coach Andy Reid on Doug Pederson:
"Doug Pederson has done a great job, I've watched him grow from being a player for me, now as a coach, and each year he's done this thing- now coordinator - he's growing, "Reid said. "Unfortunately, he's got a head coach who's an offensive guy, so he doesn't get enough credit for what he does, but I have full trust to turn the whole game over to him and let him call.
"It's something I enjoy doing, "Reid added, "but I have full trust in him doing."
Tweet from Howard Eskin on Pederson:
New #Eagles HC Doug Pederson interesting background. Played w Dan Marino, Brett Farve. under CH's Don Shula, Mike Holmgren and Andy Reid
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) January 15, 2016#Eagles players excited about the hiring of Doug Pederson.

— Eliot Shorr-Parks (@EliotShorrParks) January 15, 2016In my last article a two days ago, I said I was 99.9% sure that Doug Pederson would be the next Head coach and look at where we at now boom he's "unofficially" the new head coach. I'm fine with the hiring, I don't love it but I like it. I'm intrigued and looking forward to see what happens in the next few seasons hopefully more than three years and even more than five. Doug Pederson had to fight to stay in the league as a quarterback, he wasn't a very good QB but he could be a very good coach that could lead the Eagles to a Super-Bowl championship. Never Know Right? Just Never Know! I believe he has the mental toughness to be a head coach in this league because he had to fight to just stay in the league and he is certainly motivated to prove that he can be a NFL head coach.
#5 Donovan McNabb took to twitter to congratulate Pederson:
#5 WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!
Congrats to the Pederson family for becoming the Head Coach of the @Eagles . Welcome back Doug and good luck.
— Donovan McNabb (@donovanjmcnabb) January 15, 2016Brian Westbrook took to twitter to congratulate Pederson too:
Happy for Doug! He is a very good guy!
— Brian Westbrook (@36westbrook) January 14, 2016Finally, I want to say Congrats to Doug Pederson and wish him the best of luck as the new head coach of the Eagles. He wasn't in my top five of candidates but it is what it is now, nothing us fans can do about it but support the team. I'm not saying you got to love or like him just give a chance, I certainly didn't love or like Chip Kelly I hated him but I supported the team and gave Chip a chance and he blew that with the stupid moves. #GiveDougaChance!
Reid wasn't a popular guy when the Eagles first hired him either. Let Pederson do his job and then judge #Eagles pic.twitter.com/6EQmJ1wAb9
— Philly Sports (@MadeForPhilly) January 14, 2016WELCOME BACK TO PHILADELPHIA DOUG PEDERSON!
