Sam Hinkie Steps down as Sixers' GM and President of Basketball Operations!

Late last night Sixers' GM and President of Basketball Operations, Sam Hinkie steps down from his postions and leaves the Sixers. This was a huge shocker and one of the top news stories in Philadelphia sports today. The Sixers released a statement regarding his resignation:

“This evening, Sam Hinkie notified the organization that he has elected to step down as president of basketball operations and general manager. While we are disappointed in Sam’s decision, we would like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the past three seasons. There is no question that Sam’s work has put us in a strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future,” it said.

Sam Hinkie wrote a 13-page resignation letter to ownership explaining why he stepped down from his positions. Click here to read the entire letter courtesy of ESPN's Marc Stein.

One guy that was thrilled that Sam Hinkie is gone is ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

Here's his tweet and rant video below:

Stephen A isn't the only one with some hate on Sam here is Colin Cowherd going off on a rant of his own:

My take is that the Sixers' Owner Josh Harris and Chairman of Basketball Operations Jerry Colangelo, I believed forced his hand and that's why he decided to step down when he did instead of just waiting until the end of the season. I truly believe that Hinkie felt that he would soon be gone and that he didn't want to go out there. I don't blame Hinkie for stepping down at all he really had no choice.

It's a real shame that we will never see what Hinkie would of done this off-season with the draft. This was the draft every fan has been waiting for in this process. And now we will never know. I think Harris is a punk of an owner and needs to sell the team he knows nothing about basketball. He caved into the pressure of Jerry and NBA commissioner, Adam Silver which makes him look very weak. Be an owner and make your own decisions.

Finally, we shall see where the Sixers are a year from now (April 7, 2017). This was a process that I believed would of worked, I liked how Hinkie took a risk and had balls in going this route "tanking" and getting top draft picks. The Sixers fan base I would say is split down the middle in terms of pro Hinkie and anti Hinkie. People either like him or hate him, it's just one of those things. And there's nothing wrong with that. I can see both sides of the argument. I believe, Sam Hinkie did leave us in a good position.
