Number 18. Butler Upsets Number 1. Villanova.
Hello Everybody. Butler University was the place to be on Wednesday night. The Number 18. Butler Bulldogs pulled of the Biggest Upset of the young 2016-17 College Basketball Season as they upset the Number 1 team in the Nation the Villanova Wildcats 66-58. Andrew CHRABASCJ had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Kelan Martin had 12 points and 6 rebounds. KAMAR Baldwin had 10 points and 5 rebounds. And KETHAN Savage came off the bench to do some damage with 13 points and 2 rebounds. As for Villanova they had a off night with the exception of Jalen Brunson he had 23 points and 1 rebound in a losing effort and Kris Jenkins, the hero of last year's NCAA tournament final only had 11 points and 2 rebounds in 31 minutes on the court. I have the highlights of this upset game please enjoy afterwards you will hear what the coaches had to say. And after that you will get my commentary.
As you just saw in the Highlights of last night's upset Butler Just Dominated the game and pulled off the upset of the season so far. Villanova Coach Jay Wright got a technical foul assessed against him after he claimed one of his players got elbowed in the face and the referees missed the call on the court Coach Wright had to be restrained by his coaching staff and players. Thankfully His Players and coaching staff were there to get a hold of him because he almost got a second technical foul just moments later. Here's what happened with 8:31 left in the 1st half he thought a Butler player tipped the ball as it went out off bounds and thought it should be Villanova Ball but the officials saw the play and it was awarded to Butler that's when he went off on the officials. After the game Coach Wright went on a Bobby Knight tirade at his press and threw a temper tantrum I can't repeat a lot of the stuff he said because have of his words started with the letter F and he dropped a few other dirty words along the way during his press conference afterwards. So I am not going to share a lot because a few words he said were not so nice and I hope his MAMA wasn't watching. Because his MAMA would have been ashamed of him.
While Villanova coach Jay Wright was showing his dismay at the officials Butler coach Chris HOLTMANN was a very Happy man On Wednesday night. HOLTMANN Said afterwards " I am so proud of my team and they way we have played the last few game. To upset the Number 1 team in the Nation is something that you dream about. This dream came true for our School and our team." Coach HOLTMANN and Butler did something they will never forget. They Beat Villanova for the 1st time in School History. Butler is now 4-0 against ranked teams this season. They have beaten 3 top 10 teams this season. Butler could be the team to watch in the Big East this season. As for Villanova their 20-game winning streak comes to an end at the Hands of Butler.
Well here's the $64.000 question can Butler possibly take the Big East Crown.
Here's my take, We have a 4-team race for the Big East title. Xavier leads the Big East { 12-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play}. Then comes Creighton { 14-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play}. Villanova is next { 14-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play} Butler is the team to watch in my opinion { 13-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play}. So we have a 4-team race for the Big East championship. These four teams are the teams to watch as they go into the Meat and Potatoes of the Big East Schedule. Then we have the possible Wild Card in the conference and that's Seton Hall. {11-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play}. These 5 teams are the teams to watch in the Big East because they have Proven to me in this young Big East College Basketball season they want to be in the Big Dance in March. And I will say this. I know it's only January but March is going to be here Before you know it. So there's a lot at stake for these 5 teams and any one of them can win the Big East Championship and be the odds on favorite to win it all in March. And in closing I will say this. If you want to know how the NCAA tournament will go Watch the Big East tournament and watch how the Big East Regular Season goes because how the Big East goes so does the NCAA tournament. And in my opinion Villanova will bounce back to give Butler a run for their money and in the end in my opinion Villanova will win the Big East title.
