Is the Fleury and Murray Debate Already Over?
When the regular season began, the Pittsburgh Penguins always talked about how luxurious they are to have Marc-Andre Fleury and Matt Murray. Fleury was the starter to start the season because of Murray's thumb injury. Murray has returned and has already played in a few games.
Is this debate who should be the number 1 goalie already finished? In 11 games played, Fleury is 6-3-2 with a .910 save percentage and 3.06 GAA. Murray has only played in 3 games and he is 3-0 with a .957 save percentage 1.33 GAA and 1 shutout.
In ways I think it should be. Murray hasn't let in soft goals like Fleury has. The issue is the defense doesn't like to try as hard for him as they do for Matt. I really don't understand that logic, but it is what it is. I am not saying by any means Fleury can't play. We all pick on him but the reality is he is going to get into the NHL Hall of Fame one day.
The future is now and team seems to be more energized when they play in front of Murray.
