The Eagles' Coaching Search has Been Lackluster!
It been two weeks since the Philadelphia Eagles fired Chip Kelly. Eagles' Owner/CEO, Jeffrey Lurie wanted to get ahead start on the search, he said this in his press conference the day after he fired Chip.
I know it's late to post this but there hasn't been anything really to write about in the last two weeks as it's just been rumors and nonsense. Here is the Jeffrey Lurie's Press conference from December 30, 2015:
So back to what I said about Lurie wanting to get ahead of everybody (other teams) on the coaching search well how has that search been going? It has been lackluster and that's just putting it nicely. We are basically two weeks in this search and our top three candidates are a 69 year old coach in Tom Coughlin (interviewed Monday) who for the last 12 year was coaching one of our biggest rivals the New York "Football" Giants. Coughlin lead them to two Super-Bowl championships (2007 & 2011) both against the New England Patriots. In 2007, the Giants beat the 18-0 New England Patriots and prevented them from making history.
One of the other candidates is Doug Pederson (interviewed this past Sunday) who played for the Eagles in 1999, Andy Reid's first season as Head coach of the Eagles. He is currently the Offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs under Reid, he was the Quarterback's coach for the Eagles in 2011 and 2012 also under Reid (Reid's last season as Head Coach of the Eagles). His only coaching experience was being the Head coach of a high school (Calvary Baptist Academy) team in Hurricane, West Virginia from 2005-2008.
The third and last candidate is the is Eagles' interim head coach/offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur. (interviewed last week). He was the Eagles' Quarterback's coach from 2002-2008 under Reid and left to become the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams for two seasons before he became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns on 2011 lasting only two seasons going 9-23 (1-0 as Eagles' Interim HC). He came back to the Eagles to become the "Offensive coordinator" under Chip Kelly, he really didn't call the plays that was all Chip Kelly.
Out of the three candidates I mention, I would want Tom Coughlin followed by Doug Pederson, Shurmur I DO NOT WANT. If he was to come back as the offensive coordinator, I'd be fine with that because that luckily means Sam Bradford comes back who I'm not a fan of but wouldn't mind coming back as long as it's not a long contract like five years. Anything more than three years I'm not for, under three yes. Pederson I wouldn't mind but won't be excited about it. Coughlin because he's a two time Super-Bowl champion.
Finally, I firmly believe that Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman don't have a F**king clue what they're doing. Why aren't they interviewing every possible candidate available. The Eagles announced that they won't be interviewing anymore candidates this week as owner Jeffrey Luire is in Houston, Texas for the NFL Owner's meeting. This doesn't mean they are done it just means they're done this week and it will possible continue next week when Luire is back. I don't get why they haven't interviewed the one candidate a lot of Eagles' fans want and that is former Eagles' and current Carolina Panthers' defensive coordinator, Sean McDermott. Maybe just maybe they're waiting for the Panthers to either be eliminated or win the Super-Bowl. The Eagles have interviewed six candidates: Eagles' Running back coach Duce Staley , Eagles' interim/OC Pat Shurmur, former Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator and new Dolphins' head coach Adam Gase, New York Giants' offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, former Giants' head coach Tom Coughlin and Chiefs' offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. I'm 99.9% certain the Eagles will hire Doug Pederson when the Chiefs are eliminated from the playoffs or win the Super-Bowl. So the Eagles might not have a new head coach until after the Super-Bowl (February 7, 2016), I don't think they're allowed to officially offer Pederson the job until the Chiefs are done.
Eagles not planning any more HC interviews as of now. Will regroup after owner's meetings. Pederson among those who impressed them
